"In this serie I like to present my work not as a centre, but the opposite, as a surrounding. To be able to create a work which is present, without communicating directly, I use in this serie words of a well-known decorative 'language', the patterns of wallpaper. This helps to create work with a seemingly anonymity."

As a child I was withdrawn, imaginative. In the bathroom tiles I saw faces, battles, scenes with a dragon ...

The walls of my small bedroom were papered with wallpaper somewhat similar to this work. As I observed, there were things, and the things inbetween, or behind. The reality of the wall was not flat, but more like a spongy layer. These things inbetween, were spiritual, but almost matter, tangible.

The first transparent painting. By making the canvas transparent it immediately becomes a 3-dimensional work. The work is never on its own, but literally gets involved in a relationship with the wall, the frame, the lighting. By direct light the attention will be drawn towards the colours, by backlight the thickness of the paint will play its part and the trees on the left and right will become more visible.
